Think inside the font

 I have a confession. I am still working on my branding. I am still trying to suss it all out. Some of that is that I am a perfectionist, some of that is that I can sometimes love everything and forget it's not really about me. Honestly though, it can be overwhelming. I mean, there's what? A million or more fonts? {If you haven't seen the documentary Helvetica, do it}. Color Combo's for days that strike my fancy and then there's design elements, copy, offerings, packaging {digital and physical}. Luckily I love design or I'd pull an Oedipus and gouge my eyes out with a Dior Brooch.  

     If this is your first time at bat though, I've got a couple of tips to ease the process. 

First things first. Fonts. Now, the rule of thumb is 3 fonts. Heading 1, Heading 2 and text/paragraph. Personally I like a little Script font thrown in for fun. This can get a bit busy though so to, start pick 2 fonts.

1. Heading. Used as a Title or Subheading or Call to Action. You may want to play with size but for now, pick one to fill this job opening.

2. Main text and content. This job opening should be filled by a reliable, easily read, sturdy font. Good thing is there are lots and lots to choose from. Just be sure to get the personality right.

When you're ready for more, you'll know it and you can add to the team.

Check out Dafont.com and fontsquirel for lots of options. Use the Preview feature to really get a feel for what your options look like. I also love Creative Market for tons of design assets and inspiration. Just be aware of licensing. You may have to pay for fonts for commercial use.
